Getting Clear On Why We’re Here

Day 5, here we come! And it happens to include one of my favorite topics: believing that YOU are worthy of great health, happiness and abundance in the first place.

One of the primary barriers to entry when it comes to claiming your happiness and your health is BELIEVING that you are worth it. Your friends and family might tell you that you are. I certainly hope your partner and colleagues might say it too. But until YOU believe it in the deepest fibers of your being, it will never be possible.

So many of the patients I see and work with are weak in the self-efficacy category. That means they may have been told through someone else’s words or actions that their own worthiness of love was conditional, and then that belief got stuck in their emotional body. When they look at themselves, they tend to focus on the criticisms rather than the beauty–  the weaknesses instead of the strengths, and sometimes, they even feel unworthy of being at all.

Radical healing begins by adopting a radical new viewpoint of yourself: you must believe that you ARE worth the time and effort it takes to be well. You are deserving of health and happiness, regardless of your past or mistakes you may have made.

Repeat after me: Feeling good is my birthright. Hell yes it is! I am here because I absolutely deserve to be.

And that brings me to Murphy’s Wellness Law #10:

Wellness and health are your divine rights. You are worthy of being healthy, you are capable of taking the steps to get there, and you are allowed to be happy and to choose health every day, regardless of your external circumstances.

— Murphy's Wellness Laws (#10)

To drive this radical viewpoint home even further, today (and for the rest of the challenge), I’d like you to try some mirror work. I love this exercise because it’s not only meant to feel super empowering, but it also helps us start re-framing our idea of what a mirror should be in your life: instead of a reflection of the things we may not love about ourselves, what if we let it be clear and present proof of our undeniable beauty, strength and gloriousness?

Today’s Activities:

Practicing Mirror Work

(Dedicate 2 - 5 minutes each day to this activity)

  1. Find a mirror that you are comfortable using and that will give you privacy from any unintended interruptions.

  2. Start by just looking into your eyes and taking a few, belly-deep breaths. Notice how you feel. Do not judge anything that comes up for you. If you are feeling awkward or nervous at first, this is normal. Many people often cry. Simply notice how you're feeling and let it go. Know that you are safe and nurtured in this practice. Maybe place your hands over your heart and feel it beating. Envision yourself injecting it with love and peace and safety.

  3. Once you are ready (note: this might not happen on Day 1), you may start talking to yourself as if you were talking to a friend. Eventually, you may just have conversations with yourself about your day and how you're feeling. This is the goal: to see yourself fully, to love yourself fully, and to become your own best friend. Mirror work emphasizes an acknowledgment of ourselves; of our inner child and our boundless spirit. The hope is that you will uncover that you have a love deep within you that is unshakeable, constant and available to you every hour and minute of every day.

  4. If you ever struggle to find the words, you can always come back to just breathing and gazing. Or you can repeat a mantra that you'd like to work on. Some of my favorites include:

I am worthy.

I am abundant.

I am capable.

I am loved.

I am safe.

Bonus Points

Go back to Day 1 or Day 3, and from your journal musings, create mantras that are more specifically suited to your own self- worth and self-love practices. Remember, the more authentic you feel in this practice, the more benefit you’ll experience.
