The Structure and Practice of Freedom
Welcome back! How are you feeling in your body today? How is your spirit? Have you taken a moment to check in with yourself yet? If not, let’s take a minute right now to do so before we get into today’s work.
We are all seeking freedom, especially within our own bodies. As strange as it may sound, freedom comes when structures are put into place to support our creativity, and to create space and time to both achieve success and have fun while doing so. After all, success is most often achieved when there’s a plan in place, not when we are constantly fighting against chaos, and achieving health and wellness of the mind and body is no exception to that rule. So let’s talk about creating a plan for success, and then let’s start putting our plan into practice every day.
Creating a new practice or habit begins with this simple combo: brainstorm + structure. When we have a schedule (structure) in place for our days, it’s less likely we’ll be able to “forget” or disregard what we are aiming to accomplish. The best part is that we get to decide what that structure looks like, based on what is most attainable and beneficial for us (brainstorm).
Where can you create more structure in your daily routine to carve out some time for your new health and wellness practice? Perhaps you start small: one new health habit a week. Maybe you want to try waking up 30 minutes earlier to make a hot breakfast in the morning– start with the habit of setting your alarm, and the practice of actually getting out of bed when it goes off. Perhaps you’d like to be more mindful during mealtimes– start by setting aside 10 minutes before you eat to sit down, do a body scan, and thank your food for what it’s providing to you.
Most of the practices in this 21-day challenge require you to dedicate some extra time and space to practice them, so you’re probably already more warmed up than you think!
For the rest of this week, brainstorm an intention you’d like to achieve, and create a structure of health habits to support the practice. Start by putting your intention into your calendar, and set reminders for yourself along the way too. Remember your radical self-responsibility– you are the only one who can make your dreams come true.
Let’s get cracking.
Today’s Activity:
For the rest of this week, brainstorm an intention you’d like to achieve, and create a structure of health habits to support the practice. Start by putting your intention into your calendar, and set reminders for yourself along the way too. Remember your radical self-responsibility: you are the only one who can make your dreams come true.
Reference a sample planner in your Master Document if you’d like some extra structure.
