Mud Packing: An Ancient Healing Technique to Balance Our Bodies and Align Our Energy Flow

In order to understand the process and benefits of mud packing, you must first understand that our bodies are vibrating, energetic vessels.
Most of us are familiar with the basics of human function. In short, the very cells that make up our bodies communicate with each other through mechanical pulses and electrical signaling. Our cells need fuel to create this energy, so we feed our bodies with food which is broken down and then used as energy by our cells. The food we eat is either from other animals that are made up of energetic cells just like we are, or from plants that are grown from the earth where they source their energy from the nutrient-rich soil and the power of the sun. As beings of the earth, we are all either creating energy, consuming energy, or expending it. That’s life!
Outside of this traditional understanding of energy, however, our bodies are also made up of internal energy meridians. These are otherwise known as energetic “pathways” that flow from the top of our head down through our toes. My mentor, Amy Ellsworth of South Coast Wellness, likes to describe these energy meridians as internal highways systems. We have on-ramps and off-ramps that allow our energy to flow in and throughout our bodies. If these highway systems are running smoothly there is no energetic “traffic” and our body will be in balance and functioning optimally. If any of our energy meridians are blocked (a concept we call an “interference field”), our highway systems will clog and get backed up just like traffic on the highway which can cause disease, illness or general imbalance.
If you’re asking yourself how you can know if your energy meridians are clogged or out of balance, you’re on the right track and following along nicely! Interference fields can result from physical or emotional trauma. However, for the sake of the topic of mud packing, I’m going to focus primarily on physical trauma.
If we have had any physical trauma (which we all have), and our body did not have adequate nutrients at the time of this physical trauma to properly nourish and heal the impact site, an interference field can develop. It’s important to note that not all physical traumas result in an interference field, but many do. And when they do, the energy meridian(s) that was/were impacted could develop energetic “scar tissue” which can make the proper flow of energy especially difficult.
Another great analogy for the concept of an interference field is also came from my mentor, Amy. She explains the visual of punching your first through a glass window. Say, in this instance, that your fist hitting the window is actually your forehead hitting concrete pavement after tripping on a curb as a teenager. Like a fist through glass, you would have the primary impact site (your forehead), but you’d also see hundred of shatters on the glass too. These shatters could penetrate and impact many other meridians in your body which would slow down energy flow.
So, perhaps, in this fictional scenario, you may have healed from a mild concussion within a few weeks of the fall, but this damaged meridian created energetic scar tissue in our body which could begin to drain the flow of energy to and from that site. You might then wake up 10 years later having developed hypothyroidism or a digestive problem like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Like a highway system, this off-ramp closed after the fall, and as a result, this forced energy to flow through a different route. It doesn’t mean that your energy isn’t still flowing, but because its forced to take a different on-ramp or highway, the traffic will build over time, which means you may not see the impacts of that fall until many years later, and in seemingly unrelated ways.
Other examples of situations that could cause an interference field could include: falls, car accidents, injection sites, surgeries, scars, broken bones, tattoos, dental work, insect bites, exposure to chemicals or environmental toxins, among many others.
So how can we help reduce the effects of an interference field? Mud packing.
Mud packing is a procedure in which we use an ancient blend of botanicals and bentonite clay which, together, are known for their healing properties and magnetism for promoting energy flow and pulling toxins out of the body. I purchase my mud from a phenomenal brand called Premier Research Labs. When combined with a liquid serum (there are different serum options that we can use), we apply the mud to the impact site which will allow our bodies to remove and cleanse these built-up toxins and energetic scar tissue. Depending on how old or intense a trauma is, a mud pack might need to be conducted multiple times. However, over time, this site will begin to heal and energy flow will begin to normalize once again.
The immediate benefits of mud packing are vast. Many people report improved energy, reduced muscle and joint pain, more restful sleep, clear-headedness and an uplifted spirit. As a Dietitian, I utilize mud packing as a means for helping my patients better utilize the nutrients they eat. If their internal meridians are clear and open, they will be able to better receive and utilize nutrients from food or supplementation. Over the long-term, mud packing may reduce the need for supplementation because your body is better able to receive adequate nutrients from a healthful diet.
